Congress seeks probe into Badal’s stay at GNDU

The Congress has sought an inquiry and action against chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) vicechancellor Prof AS Brar for violation of the model code of conduct by holding election-related meetings within the campus in the guest house of the university.

The Congress has sought an inquiry and action against chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) vicechancellor Prof AS Brar for violation of the model code of conduct by holding election-related meetings within the campus in the guest house of the university.


Bir Devinder Singh, senior party leader and for mer deputy speaker of state assembly, claimed that the Chief Minister had stayed at the GNDU guest house and held meetings with different sections of people, including the senior officials of the university soliciting their support for the BJP candidate Arun Jaitley.

Bir Devinder pointed out that this was clear violation of the model code of conduct as no government premises can be used for political purposes.

He wanted the Election Commission (EC) to take serious note of this violation and seek explanation of the Amritsar deputy commissioner, who is also the retur ning of ficer, for not reporting the matter to the EC.
