The Congress high command should declare state party chief Captain Amarinder Singh as the chief ministerial candidate for the coming assembly elections in Punjab, said party’s state vice-president Manpreet Singh Badal.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of a Congress rally at Chamkaur Sahib on Sunday, Manpreet, who heads the party’s manifesto draft committee, said the draft would be submitted to the party by August-end and the manifesto would be released on October 1. He said the document will present a roadmap for creation of a new Punjab.
“Congress will present a vision for the youth, education, unemployment and health sector, improving the fiscal deficit and more opportunities for the new industry to invest in Punjab,” said Manpreet.
Saying that nepotism and factionalism had harmed the Congress, Manpreet said that party should give tickets on merit.
Speaking on the occasion, Indian Youth Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said youths, who were wooed by the Aam Aadmi Party, were returning to the Congress fold. He said the youths of the state would be taken to Delhi to make them aware about the “failure” of the AAP government there.
