Khaira said the Congress legislators, which had been accusing the Akali government of gagging their voice and not giving them opportunity to raise issues related to Punjab in the previous term, had embarked upon the similar “partisan, illegitimate and unconstitutional path” to deny the opposition MLA’s their due right to a fair debate.

“It’s saddening a party that hijacked the platform of the Vidhan Sabha barely six months ago and staged a sit-in for more than 48 hours has now taken a complete U-turn to deny the opposition elected representatives an opportunity to debate,” said Khaira.

As per the rules of business laid out by the treasury benches, there is no proposal for a discussion or debate after the governor’s address on March 28.
