Congress urges the union law minister to scrap Khosla's appointment as ASGI

punjab Updated: May 12, 2013 21:28 IST

Expressing shock over the appointment of Rupinder Khosla as Assistant Solicitor General of India (ASGI) by the Union law minister, state congress on Sunday appealed scrapping the appointment on the pretext of his strong connections with Akalis.

“As we are all aware, Khosla remained additional advocate general of the SAD-BJP government for full five years, later he headed a committee to look after the affairs of the Office of Advocate General, after the sudden illness of the incumbent advocate general (AG) HS Mattewal”, spokesman of State Congress, Sukhpal Khaira stated here.

During the course of discharge of duties as additional AG, Khosla had close proximity with Badals the present DGP Sumedh Saini, Khaira stated adding that Khosla is also well known for his unscrupulous manoeuvers and law juggling to favour the Akali government in its misdeeds.

Khosla not only vehemently defended the unconstitutional and wrongful appointment of Saini as DGP in the high court recently but also exhibited his personal loyalty to him in the case, he added.

It is shocking and alarming for a common man to understand how a hardcore pro-Akali lawyer, manipulated his way to become an ASG of a goverment headed by the Congress party, while he is diametrically opposed to its very ideology, Khaira said.

“It is equally intriguing for Congress cadres to understand, why the outgoing law minister Ashwani Kumar appointed a staunch Akali lawyer as ASG of India”. He said adding that he is highly imperative for Khosla to clarify to the people as well as his political masters, as to where his loyalties lie?

Therefore, we urge the law minister to rescind Khosla's appointment without any further delay, as his continuance can at a given point of time cause embarrassment to our UPA government, given his closeness with the Badals, he added.
