On the call of Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh to plaster Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal face on all effigies and set them on fire, Congress workers burned ‘chitta’ Ravan here on Monday before the bus stand traffic lights and raised slogans against the state government.

The protest was led by Brahm Mohindra, Congress MLA from Patiala (rural) and Congress workers came out in large numbers and burned the effigy as part of the party’s state-wide anti-drug campaign.

“The state has been caught in drugs but when congress workers were trying to burn the effigy of ‘chitta’ in Ludhiana few days ago, they were beaten and loaded with false police cases.

“The Akali workers brutally assaulted our workers in which district congress president, Gurpreet Gogi, along with other workers were badly injured. The police authorities were supporting SAD workers. Today, we burned chitta Raavan effigy in the solidarity of our Ludhiana committee,” said Brahm Mohindra.

After the Ludhiana incident, Congress staged protests before the chief minister’s residence in Chandigarh, following which CM directed Punjab DGP Suresh Arora to inquire the matter.
