UGC-sponsored national seminar on conservation of natural resources was conducted at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, on Saturday. The seminar started with speech by the chairman of the third technical session, aditional research director JS Dhiman, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
Sanjeev Chauhan, the first speaker of the session from department of forestry and natural resources, PAU, explained the C-forming through short rotation forestry.
Renu Bala Singla from zoology department of SD College Barnala, gave a detailed account of climate change and also suggested a model to conserve environment. Biofuels should be used as alternative source of energy to prevent the environmental pollution, emphasised Mandeep Bedi from botany department of Baring Union Christian College, Batala.
DS Khurana from department of vegetable sciences, PAU, Ludhiana, was the chairperson for the fourth technical session. There were three seminarians in the session. Charan Kumar, department of biology, AS College Khanna, emphasised the need for conservation of village ponds in relation to avian diversity.
Sarabjit Kaur from MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, threw light on coral reef conservation.
Organising secretary Harpreet Kaur Khurana presented a brief report of the activities conducted during the two-day seminar. Devinder Sidhu, registrar, Punjabi University, Patiala, presented valedictory address which was followed by vote of thanks by principal SS Deol.
