Constable arrested for smuggling poppy husk

Five persons including a Punjab police constable has been arrested for smuggling drugs in the district.The police also confiscated 115 around 115kg of poppy husk, 1500 habit forming drugs, 19 drug injections and eight cough syrups from the accused in different cases on Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Hardyal Singh Mann said samana police on Monday arrested two persons indentified as Gurpyar Singh and Jatinder Singh, both residents of Patran and recovered 60kgpoppy husk from their possession.Mann said during interrogation, the accused have confessed that they used to smuggle poppy husk from Rajasthan and to sell the same in different parts of Punjab and Haryana.

“The accused have also confessed that police constable Kuldeep Singh used to help them in smuggle contrabands from one place to another”, Mann said.Mann said Kuldeep had smuggled poppy husk for around 15 times stacked in gunny bags.“The accused also informed that Kuldeep was going for shipment of poppy husk in his car on Tuesday.

Acting swiftly on the information provided by the accused, police laid trap and arrested the tainted cop”, he said.He added that accused Kuldeep has been immediately suspended from his services.Meanwhile, in another cases, a resident of Khanna Mithu was arrested after police recovered 750 habit forming drugs.
