Two persons allegedly robbed a police constable of his Hyundai i20 car at gunpoint near the main chowk in Jagraon on Friday night.The residence of senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Ludhiana (rural) is located a few metres from the spot.
Giving details, constable Talwinder Singh of Ludhiana rural, who is a resident of Malk village, said he, along with his friend, had came to Jagraon for some work. Around 8.30 pm, Talwinder stopped his car near the main chowk, and his friend got off to buy something from a nearby shop.
Meanwhile, two men forcibly entered his car and started thrashing him. When Talwinder resisted, one of the men brandished a gun on his temple and threatened him not to shout for help. The men then threw him out of the car, before fleeing the spot with the car.
The victim raised an alarm and informed the police, following which deputy superintendent of police Surinder Kumar, along with the police team, reached the spot and initiated investigation.
Talwinder, who suffered injuries on his face, was rushed to civil hospital.
A case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the unidentified accused at Jagraon police station.
