The district consumer disputes redressal forum has provided relief to a domestic power consumer who had received an inflated bill of an amount of over Rs 19.25 lakh for the period between June and August 2010.The actual bill turned out to be of Rs 24,339 only.A Batala resident, Narinder Pal Singh, was stunned after the receipt of electricity bill from June to August 2010 for Rs 19.25 lakh. Getting no relief even after running from pillar to post in the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) offices, he preferred to file a complaint with the district consumer disputes redressal forum, Gurdaspur.

The forum immediately stayed the recovery of the said amount of Rs 19.25 lakh. The forum, presided over by Navin Puri, summoned the PSPCL officials concerned.

After hearing both the parties under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act,1986, the forum directed the PSPCL authorities to hold an independent inquiry by some high-ranking officer not below the rank of executive engineer of the PSPCL to dig out the truth of the matter.

The PSPCL inquiry report finally said that Narinder Pal Singh actually owed Rs 24,339 only to the PSPCL as per his power consumption for the period under question.
