Though the war between Congress' Captain Amarinder Singh and BJP's Arun Jaitley took the limelight from Bathinda, yet the battle between the two titans of the Badal clan still holds significance.

The battlefield of the Badals was also stormed with certain controversies. It all began with clash between the PPP chief Manpreet Badal and his once close aide and now AAP candidate from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann. Mann accused Badal of 'selling' the PPP mission and ultimately parted ways and joined AAP.

Manpreet badal decision to sign pact with Congress and to contest from Bathinda also did not go down well with Bhagwant Mann and he termed it as the saddest day of his life.

Another controversy that rocked this constituency was the entry of Manpreet Badal's namesake. This new Manpreet Badal also stole his party's symbol kite. The namesakes had also confused the returning officer. The former finance minister of Punjab dubbed him as his dummy candidate “created for confusing the voters".

Then like a twist in the tale, Manpreet Badal's namesake went missing. The election commission has slapped him with a notice.
