The vigilance bureau sleuths on Saturday caught the assistant manager of Sangrur Primary Corporative Agriculture Development Bank red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 4,000.
The arrested assistant manager has been identified as Gurwinder pal Singh. Vigilance bureau inspector Gurcharan Singh said Gurwinderpal had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 bribe from Rashpal Singh, a resident of Longowal, for giving nod to his loan.
The VB inspector said it is learnt that Rashpal had already paid Rs 40,000 few days ago. After paying the first instalment, Rashpal complained to the VB sleuths about the demand of the assistant manager.
“We laid a trap and arrested Gurwinderpal with bribe money when he came to Rashpal's house. The arrest was made in the presence of government witnesses,” he said.
The accused was taken in police custody and a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him.
