Cop among two booked for gang rape

Shahkot police on Tuesday booked Punjab police constable and his accomplice in connection with a gang rape.

The accused have been identified as constable Rajbir Singh and Jaskirat Singh of Kakkar Kalan village.

The matter came to the fore following complaint of the victim that the accused forcibly raped and threatened her on Sunday night.

Sho Bhupinder Singh said that Rajbir Singh (belt number 1129) had joined the Nakodar city police station one and half month ago and was a new recruit.

A case under section 376-(G)( gang rape) ,506(criminal intimidation) and 34(committing crime with common intention) of the IPC has been registered.

So far no arrests have been made. Efforts are on to reach on a compromise with a proposal that accused constable should marry the victim, the SHO said.
