High drama prevailed in the Ali Mohalla locality on Wednesday night when policemen were attacked by a mob.

The policemen had gone to the area to arrest three drug peddlers, who escaped from the police custody due to the chaos.

The incident occurred at around 10 pm when on a tip-off from the arrested robbers, the police laid a trap to nab the local peddlers.

Sources said the police sent decoy customers to buy drugs from the peddlers.

The moment the peddlers supplied drugs to the decoy customers, the cops conducted a raid and held the three men identified as Shakti, Verma and Chungru.

Meanwhile, some unidentified persons started pelting the police vehicle with stones and even tore off the uniforms of some of the cops.

In the ensuing melee, all the three arrested men managed to escape.

The police have registered a case against the absconding accused and some unidentified attackers.
