The city police have registered a case against three employees of the Orbit bus transport owned by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday for attacking a student of Guru Nanak Dev University with screwdriver on head and leaving him seriously injured on Friday evening at the PAP Chowk.

The arrested accused have been identified as bus driver Gaurav Kumar of Chandigarh, conductor Gurvir Singh and helper Atinder Pal Singh of Chandigarh and booked under section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), section 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.

On Saturday, cops in the commissionerate held many meetings with the family members of Maninder Saini (27), a resident of Goraya town, who was admitted at trauma ward of the Civil Hospital.

The CID sleuths reportedly roamed around friends of the victim in the civil hospital to keep a tab on the developments.

There were reports that family was being pressurised by cops for the settlement in the case.

In the morning, Maninder, who had sustained an injury on the head and undergoing treatment, alleged that on Friday, cops were unsupportive and trying to cover up the case.

However in the evening, Maninder’s elder brother Sarbjeet said cops are now supporting them and they are satisfied with the police. He said cops have registered a case against the accused and right now, we are determined to arrange better treatment for our brother.

The victim said he is a student of the second year of Masters in Physical Education at GNDU Amritsar and gives volleyball coaching to students in a private school at Goraya.

He told that he used to travel by the Orbit bus daily from Amritsar to the PAP Chowk in Jalandhar and then, hire another bus to reach home in Goraya.

Saini alleged that the bus driver did not stop bus at the PAP Chowk and when he requested driver to stop bus, the conductor started abusing and when he objected, the conductor along with two others, including driver, beat him and attacked with screwdriver.
