Cops issue 469 challans for traffic violations

When the people were busy in celebrating and welcoming the New Year on Wednesday night, the traffic wing of the police commissionerate was busy in slamming challans on revelers who were violating traffic rules. The police have issued 469 challans for traffic violations in one night.

The police had already beefed up security in the city and established checkpoints at various points of the city, including Sarabha Nagar main market, Model Town, Ferozepur road, Professor Mohan Singh Chowk (Aarti Chowk), Bharat Nagar Chowk, Pakhowal road and the Dugri area. According to traffic wing, 67 out of 469 challans were issued for not wearing seat belts, three challans for underage driving, 50 challans for over-speeding, 45 challans for driving without licence, 59 were issued challans for wrong parking of vehicles, five challans for plying vehicles on wrong side. The traffic police have also challaned for drunk driving and over-speeding. Some of the people came on the roads and started dancing after 12 at night. The police have acted swiftly and stopped them from doing so. Some of the people were also caught creating nuisance on the roads.

The police had already chalked out a plan to deter hooliganism and nuisance on the New Year’s eve and had beefed up the security in the city.
