Police have initiated a special drive to curb drug peddling and to make passengers aware of negative aspects of abandoned things at Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Bus Terminal. The police have started conducting special search drive twice a day at the bus stand and in the buses.

The police are also making passengers aware of unauthorised agents and unauthorised bus services executed outside the bus stand by some private operators.

"The department has been laying emphasis on curbing drug peddling. We are conducting drives and are frisking suspects and checking their baggage, besides checking buses," said sub-inspector Mukesh Kumar, incharge of the bus stand police post.

"The police have also installed speakers at various points at the bus stand which play recorded message throughout the day making people aware of the disadvantages of abandoned things," he added.

The bus stand police post recorded the message on its own from a recording studio. The police are also scanning the vehicles coming to the bus stand.

Kumar further said their efforts were getting response as the people have started informing the police if they see something suspicious.

Inspector Beant Juneja, station house officer of the Division Number 5 police station, said the drive had been appreciated by the locals and passengers, who have got a sense of security at the bus stand with the visibility of the police personnel.
