The cops who put in exemplary efforts to nab Akali leader Ranjit Singh Rana, the main accused in the ASI Ravinder Pal Singh murder case, within 12 hours of the incident will be rewarded by the Punjab Police.

Confirming this to HT, the Tarn Taran SSP and the Amritsar (rural) SSP said they had received a message in this regard from the office of the DGP and they were preparing a list of the policemen who performed their duty well on the night of the operation.
As soon as Akali leader Ranjit Singh Rana ran away after killing ASI Ravinder Pal Singh, DGP Sumedh Saini pressed in two IGPs, five SSPs and more than 60 SHOs to nab Rana and his accomplices "at any cost".
After getting a tip-off that Rana was in Tarn Taran district, the police sealed the entire district and various police teams were assigned different roles.
Rana was first intercepted near Sohal village, where he fired at a police team. Later, he was intercepted near Basarke, but he again managed to escape. Rana and his men were finally nabbed near Rajoke, a border village.
The entire operation was so aggressive that the accused did not get a chance to move out of Tarn Taran and was arrested within 12 hours.
Talking to HT, Tarn Taran SSP KS Dhillon said, "As far as we know, some of them will be getting promotions while others will be awarded certificates and commendation discs by the DGP. This will further boost the morale of the police force."
Amritsar (rural) SSP PS Virk said they were in the process of preparing a list of the policemen who contributed to the success of the operation.
