Municipal council chairperson Bharti Aggarwal has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress councillors have entered into “a secret agreement” for “preventing” the construction of a children park near Kalishthan pond.

Interacting with mediapersons here on Monday, she said there were chances of encroachments upon the vacate land of the council, so it was decided to construct a children park there.

However, she alleged that the BJP councillors were opposing the move because they wanted to benefit the BJP office located on the one side of the land in a private building.

Some of the Congress councillors were also supporting the BJP on the issue because the building was owned by their relatives, she added.

The chairperson said if their anti-public behaviour continued, then she would not hesitate to resign from her post.

Raising a finger on the functioning of the BJP councillors, she questioned when the decision of construction of the park was taken in the House, why the BJP councillors did not oppose the move.

She said some councillors had requested for a discussion in the general house on the issue on Saturday, which could not take place.

The chairperson alleged that a group of councillors were trying to benefit the rich people of the town either by allowing encroachments on the land or by compounding their cases.

On the occasion, LOJPA councillor Virender Passi was also present.
