In a blatant violation of the directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court, hoardings displaying pictures of ward number 57 councillor Veeran Bedi’s husband and son and other SAD leaders were illegally installed on the Ferozepur Road on Friday.

These hoardings were installed to welcome the SAD leaders and supporters arriving here to participate in Shiromani Akali Dal’s Sadbhawana Rally that will be held 76 km from here at Moga on Saturday. Such hoardings have also been installed near the hotel where the deputy chief minister is staying.

Though councillor Veeran Bedi claimed to have got two-day permission from the muncipal coproration for installation of these hoardings, MC additional commissioner Rishipal Singh was not aware about any such information. She said, “These hoardings were installed to promote Moga rally, and the hoardings will be removed after the rally.”

When contacted, MC additional commissioner Rishipal Singh said, “I have no information regarding any permission taken for installation of these hoardings on the national highway. I will ask the superintendent concerned. Action will be taken against the guilty.”

Commuters claimed that these hoardings displaying pictures of Veeran Bedi’s husband Harpreet Singh Bedi and son Gurpreet Singh Bedi were a distraction for them. The installation of illegal hoardings has hidden the signboards displaying necessary information about the areas on Ferozepur Road.

Earlier this year, the high court had given directions to the MC to act against the illegal hoardings on the highways. The high court had even appointed a commissioner to inspect the city roads following which the municipal corporation had removed majority of illegal hoardings before inspection.

NGO Maha Sabha president JS Brar has strongly objected installation of these hoardings, which were distracting the commuters on national highway, demanding action against the violator.

MC advertisement wing superintendent Harvinder Singh also expressed ignorance about the unauthorised hoardings on the national highway.
