Police on Tuesday arrested three persons, including a man his wife, for allegedly carrying 52-gram heroin, firearms besides impounding a vehicle with a beacon at Zirakpur.

The police recovered two air pistols, a toy pistol, cartridges, 2,220 habit-forming capsules and Rs 3.46 lakh from the accused.

The accused have been identified as Navdeep Bedi of Peer Muchhalla, Tarun Goyal and his wife Sumandeep Goyal of Zirakpur.

Bedi is the kingpin of the gang, the police said. They were nabbed from Royale Estate, Zirakpur, when they were about to leave for delivering the consignment, the police claimed.

The police said after getting a tip-off, they conducted a intercepted a Chevrolet Cruz car (CH-O1-AB-0052) near the Royale Estate. On search, the contraband, cash and arms were found in the car.

“Initial investigations suggest that the accused used to buy heroin from drug peddlers in Ambala and Chandigarh and then sell it in the area,” said Tarlochan Singh, Zirakpur station house officer (SHO).

During investigations, the accused revealed that they had delivered consignments in different parts of the city earlier also, the police said.

“Tarun Goyal is an accused in other cases as well. He was released on bail from jail a week ago. The Goyals are into the business of drug peddling and operate across states,” the SHO claimed.

“Bedi is a contractor’s son and he is the owner of the vehicle. He works with a call centre,” the SHO said.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused. The police are investigating their local links.
