Superintendent of police (SP investigations) Harvinder Singh Virk, while addressing a press conference, informed that the brother of the victim, Anupam Verma, had lodged a complaint about his missing brother at the Lahori Gate police station on June 12.
SP Virk stated that after they got the call recordings of Anoop’s phone, it was revealed that the deceased was taken to a private place by Madhurjeet and Sonia along with others. Thereafter, the police on July 12 mounted a checkpoint near Vikas colony and held Madhurjeet and his wife from a Pajero.
He added that when they were interrogated, it was disclosed that Madhurjeet had a suspicion that Anoop kept a bad intent towards his wife. As a consequence, on June 3, when there was no one at home apart from the couple, Madhurjeet shot Anoop right in the head by his licensed pistol. Thereafter, Madhurjeet phoned his friends, who after getting drunk covered the corpse with a tarpaulin and loaded it in Madhurjeet’s Pajero.
They buried him at a vacant plot alongside the rehabilitation centre. “On July 2, they took out the remains of the victim and threw it in the Bhakra canal near Passiana, to destroy the clues,” added SP Virk.
