Couple injured in a road accident; villagers smash windowpanes of 3 private buses

Agitated villagers smashed window panes of three private buses of Amritsar based Raj transport bus service after one of the buses hit motorcycle borne couple on Goniana-Jaitu road on Saturday.

Agitated villagers smashed window panes of three private buses of Amritsar based Raj transport bus service after one of the buses hit motorcycle borne couple on Goniana-Jaitu road on Saturday.

The couple identified as Mandar Singh and Jaswinder Kaur of Akalia Kalan village received multiple injuries and were rushed to civil hospital in Goniana from where they were referred to government college and hospital in Faridkot.

The incident happened around 12:45pm when a bus PB 02 CC 5273 coming from Jaitu side towards Bathinda hit the motorcycle from behind near Akali Kalan village and tried whisk away from the spot but it was intercepted by the locals.

The villagers gathered at the spot and smashed window panes of the bus and blocked the road. Following this, two more buses of the same company carrying passengers from Faridkot and Amritsar reached the spot on the same route and the villagers broke their window panes too and deflated tyres.

The villagers asked the bus company to pay expenses for the treatment of injured persons, besides giving adequate compensation. They even tried to set ablaze the buses but were stopped by the police.

The police have arrested driver Kashmir Singh of Amritsar and registered case for rash driving.
