The police have detained 20 employees of Punjab government for staging a protest in-front of Punjab public works department minister, Janmeja Singh Sekhon’s house.

The employees from different Punjab government departments, enrolled in contributory provident fund (CPF) scheme, held the protest as a part of a state-wide plan. The protesters include employees of education department, excise and taxation department, health department and revenue patwaris.

Police detained the leaders to foil the protest, and later released them. District president of the union, Kuldeep Singh, said that the employees recruited in the Punjab government, after 2004, will not be getting pension benefits and are enrolled under CPF scheme. They want the government to restore old pension scheme for all employees.

He said that a meeting of union leaders is scheduled with deputy commissioner, Basant Garg on Thursday. They will seek time to meet chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and plan next course of action.
