CPM state secretary Mangat Ram Pasla has said that the Communist Party of India (CPI) has harmed itself by supporting Manpreet Singh Badal from here.

"There is no logic behind supporting Manpreet Singh Badal, who is a candidate of the Congress party indirectly. CPI will damage its own vote bank by making people vote for Manpreet, who is probably going to contest election on the Congress symbol," said Pasla.

He said, "It is against the ideology of the left to support candidates like Manpreet, who are supporters of capitalist economic policies. This was Manpreet who had opposed subsidies to farmers,"

He said, "We will support the left party candidate from Bathinda. But it is sad that CPI is supporting Manpreet." He said that they can support Aam Adami Party (AAP) candidate in Patiala.

Pasla also accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of promoting communalism by supporting BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. "It is surprising that the so-called leader of the minority community Badal is supporting an anti- minority candidate. It is an irony of politics that such people are ruling Punjab," said Pasla.

District CPM leader Mahipal was also present on the occasion. Mahipal said that the party would make every effort not to allow Manpreet and Harsimrat Kaur Badal to win the election.
