Chief parliamentary secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu conducted a surprise raid at the Nabha civil hospital on Saturday.Sidhu checked hospital records and visited various departments to oversee the facilities being provided to patients. She also verified the records of free medicines provided by the Punjab government.
Sidhu called the checking as a routine practice to ensure that patients did not face any difficulties.
Many patients complained to Sidhu that most doctors prescribed medicines which were not available at the hospital's pharmacy.
"Instead of prescribing medicines provided by the state government, doctors ask us to buy medicines from private chemists," one of the patients told Sidhu. All doctors and other supporting staff were found to be present, during her rounds. She also took note of the hospital's unhygienic surroundings.
"I have warned doctors to prescribe only those medicines available at the hospital's medical store for free. The state government is providing all medicines," she said.
Sidhu said she would soon visit the hospital again.Strict action will be taken if such complaints are received again, she said.
