In the first incident, a swimming coach and his unidentified accomplice have been booked for allegedly molesting a 11-year-old girl. The accused has been identified as Dasat while his accomplice is yet to be identified.

In her complaint, the victim’s mother, who is resident of Chander Nagar stated that her 11-year-old daughter was taking swimming lessons at swimming pool of GRD academy at Humbran road. The accused allegedly molested her during one of the training sessions.

ASI Varinder Kumar, who is investigating the matter, said the police launched a manhunt for the arrest of the two accused.

In another case, a 22-year-old man allegedly sodomised the 12-year-old son of his tenant in Shimla Colony of Basti Jodhewal and also threatened him on intervening night of May 30 and 31. The incident affected the child psychologically and he has stopped talking to anybody.

After three days of counseling, the victim spoke up and narrated the whole incident to his parents following which his father lodged an FIR at Basti Jodhewal police station. A case under section 377 (unnatural offenses) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of prevention of children from sexual offences act has been registered against the accused. The accused Akashdeep Singh, 22, was arrested on Friday.

In his complaint, the victim’s father said his son was sleeping on the roof of the house Monday night. Following that night, the child stopped speaking to anyone and stayed aloof and secluded from all. His father initially thought that the school teachers might have scolded him following which he is in depression. He also approached to principal of the school over the matter. His son, in front of the principal, narrated the entire incident.

He stated that on Monday, when he was sleeping on the roof, the landlord’s son Akashdeep came there and sodomised him. The accused also threatened him for keeping mum. Basti Jodhewal SHO inspector Ashok Kumar said the accused has been arrested.

The city has witnessed over 20 such incidents of crime in the previous two months when minor children have been raped or molested. In most of the cases, the victim children belong to family of migrants who stay in congested quarters and are alone most of the day with both their parents off to work. In majority of the cases, the accused were the neighbours of victims.
