Crop loss: Another farmerhangs himself in Sonepat

punjab Updated: May 02, 2015 21:14 IST

Another farmer has committed suicide by hanging himself with a tree in his field in Sonepat district, allegedly in the wake of crop loss due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh (32), a resident of Tewari village of Gannaur sub-division.

This is the second such incident in the country after the sensational suicide by Gajendra Singh of Rajasthan during the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rally in New Delhi recently.

According to his family members, Rajesh was under depression due to crop loss, caused by unseasonal rainfall in the region. Rain had damaged his wheat cultivation over 22 acres. He had taken 20 acres on lease at around `35,000 per acre.

His body was found hanging on a tree by farmers in the adjoining fields and they informed his family. His family members called the police and the body was sent for the post-mortem at the civil hospital, Sonepat.

After preliminary investigation, the Gannaur police have registered a case under section 174 of CrPC.
