CUHP, Swedish University to enter into agreement on academic exchange program

Exploring possibility to create niche in the realm of higher education in its pursuit of achieving academic excellence, the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP), soon, will be entering into an agreement with Karlstad University Sweden, on various academic exchange programmes.

The two institutions on Wednesday issued a letter of intent for signing memorandum of understanding (MoU) in near future.
The letter of intent was signed by CUHP vice-chancellor Yoginder Singh Verma and Asa Bergenheim, vice- chancellor, Karlstad University in the presence of faculty of both the universities.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Verma said, “The two institutions will work for building strong academic atmosphere by making academic visits, joint teaching programmes, joint research activities and publications, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of academic materials and other information and exchange of students.”

“This letter of intent for signing Memorandum of Understanding will convert into a MoU between these two universities as they get approval from authorities concerned in both the countries,” said Verma.
Bergenheim stressed that the two universities should designate a liaison officer to develop and coordinate the specific activities agreed upon.

The proposed MoU will remain effective for a period of five years and any party can terminate it by giving twelve months advance notice in written, unless any earlier termination is mutually agreed upon.

Lecture on Women and Peace Building

The Department of Social Work, Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP), On Wednesday organised a lecture on the theme “Women and peace building” at university's temporary academic block (TAB) in Shahpur. Anjoo Sharan Upadhyaya, professor of political science, Banaras Hindu University, delivered the lecture and called upon for more pivotal contribution of women in peace building in the world. She said since women were the victim in any and every form of violence and war, they should be the harbinger of peace. “Women understand peace as an idea better than men,” she said.

Application for admission to research degree course invited CUHP on Wednesday released the prospectus for 2014-15 for admissions to the research degree programmes offered by the university. It was released by vice chancellor Yoginder Singh Verma. Ten schools and 15 departments of the university are offering M Phil and Ph D programmes in multi-disciplinary fields depending upon the expertise available among the respective faculty.
