The Verka Milkfed Plant’s outlet located at Ferozepur Road and being run by Ludhiana District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited (LDC MPU) has failed to meet even basic expectations of customers.

Several customers, hailing from the city and neighbouring areas, have given a negative feedback and submitted complaints to Verka officials at the outlet, but in vain. The major issue with customers is the inconsistent quality of products and various other issues, which the authorities seem to overlook.

Most customers complained about the milk cake and rice pudding, which were not up to the mark. They said the quality hardly remained consistent and they had noticed that the rice pudding was highly diluted.

They said this underlined the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities who did not seem to inspect production methods.

“We bought about eight bottles of milk out of which none of the bottles were refrigerated. When we questioned the sellers they said the refrigerators hardly functioned due to erratic power cuts,” said Pawanpreet Singh Sidhu, a customer.

Customers are also irked by the unhygienic conditions inside the public toilets at the outlet, which is situated on the highway that leads to Ferozepur, and many travellers stop over at the outlet to buy various items.

SR Saini, general manager, LDC MPU, denied all allegations. “I do not agree with customers. Ours is the best Verka plant in Punjab. We ensure complete hygiene, quality and good service,” said Saini.

Besides, the plant has allegedly suffered a loss of over ? 1 crore due to a milk scam, reported by HT on June 6, under Saini’s term. He is currently facing an enquiry into the discrepancies in funds by Alkananda Dayal, managing director, Milkfed.
