The Dal Khalsa will hold a conference titled 'Azaadi- the Only Way' at the Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar gurdwara here on August 13 to commemorate the organisation's 36th foundation day.

Addressing a meeting of party workers, Dal Khalsa spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh said the organisation decided to observe August 13 as 'Azaadi Sankalp Divas' to reiterate their commitment to Sikh independence.

He said, after the conference the group's activists would march up to the Guru Nanak Mission Chowk holding banners and placards, to convey the message.

The activists had gathered at local gurdwara to give final touches to the proposed programme.

Condemning the attack on Devinder Singh and his mother in New York, USA, he said there was no stopping such crimes against the Sikh across the world.

He urged the Obama administration to take strict measures to stop such hate crimes against the community; and appealed to gurdwara committees' to set up special funds and cells to create awareness about the community's distinct identity.
