Dalit accuses ASI of thrashing him, harassing wife

A dalit man has alleged that assistant subinspector (ASI) beat him up besides detaining his wife in Badali Ala Singh police station on May 4 . The complainant Gurmail singh of Patarsi village has complained to the SSP alleging that ASI Amar Singh had summoned him and his wife to the police station during evening of May 4.

He alleged when they reached the station along with 4-year-old child, the ASI detained them till late in the night besides misbehaving with them. He alleged that at about 8.30 pm, he was put behind bars and asked his wife to return home.

He said when he asked the ASI as to how his wife would go to the house alone, the ASI replied that it was not his responsibility. He said his thumb had 9 stiches due to injuries caused by the ASI. He claimed that even reader of the police station asked the ASI to desist from doing this. He alleged that even now the ASI had been threatening them.

However, SHO Badali Ala Singh, Satnam Singh, refuted the charges stating that they had not called the woman to the police station. He said she had come on her own and was asked by the ASI to return to her house. He said Gurmail Singh was detained as a preventive measure under Section 107, 151 IPC on a complaint filed by his neighbour in a quar rel case with his him. He said they have also registered counter-cases under same section against the neighbour on the complaint of Gurmail Singh.
