A 17-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped at Dyalpur village falling under Bhikhiwind police station in Tarn Taran district. Police have booked a man, identified as Gurjant Singh, of the same village for committing the crime.

In her complaint to the police, the victim’s mother said the incident took place on May 26. She said her husband had gone out for some work and her daughter, a Class-10 student, and she were sitting in separate rooms, when she heard the girl screaming.

“When I rushed to her room, I saw Gurjant Singh fleeing from there. My daughter, who was in shock, said Gurjant raped her after threatening to kill her,” she said.

A case was registered against the accused under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Saturday evening. The accused is still at large, said investigating officer sub-inspector Ranjit Singh.
