Members of various Dalit organisations, on a fast unto death at the local Roshan Ground from March 25, held a massive demonstration at the Parbhat Chowk on Saturday to press for their demands.

Activists of Begampura Tiger Force, Ambedkar Force, Non-gazetted SC BC Employees Federation, Sri Guru Ravidas Force, Ambedkar Sena and Guru Ravidas Dharam Yudh Morcha blocked traffic for about two hours and shouted slogans at Punjab government and thr district administration.

They demanded quashing of FIRs registered against protesters following assassination of Sant Ramanand of Dera Ballan, clearance of backlog of SC/ST/OBC in government jobs, implementation of Mandal Commission report, and clearance of a bill to ensure reservation in promotions.

Begampura Tiger Force chairman Tarsem Diwana said that dalit legislators had also failed to secure justice for their community. He warned the government of serious consequences in case of loss of life of any of the fasting activists.

Additional deputy commissioner Harminder Singh and SP (detective) Jagmohan Singh reached the spot and received the memorandum.
