Daljit Singh Bittu, Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) leader, has connections with the Maoists of Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhatisgarh and was regularly in touch with them over phone.

The police said this after reviewing the call details of Bittu, who was produced in the court on Tuesday. The court has extended his police remand by two days. The police said they had to recover the explosives and weapons from his possession.

According to the police, he was in regular touch with the Maoists over phone and there were regular calls between the two parties.

The police claimed that the investigation found that Bittu used to lure the youth by giving them money that was transacted into his bank accounts from foreign countries and used to distract them.

Bittu has been facing the trial for allegedly threatening the witnesses of the Shingar Cinema bomb blast case. According to police commissioner Ishwar Singh, another woman witness has contacted the police and filed a complaint against Bittu, alleging that he threatened her to change her statement.
