District authorities today celebrated the birth of around 50 girls in the past six months at Danewala village in Muktsar to create awareness about child sex ratio.

Danewala village has the lowest sex ratio in the district with 559 girls as against 1,000 boys, deputy commissioner Jaskaran Singh said.

On the occasion, mothers of these girls were honoured with appreciation certificates.

"We have decided to celebrate the birthdays of girl child in the villages every month," Singh said, adding 'Nari chaupal' programmes will also be organised where women will be told about their legal rights.
