Anita Lerche, the blonde, blue-eyed beauty from Denmark, who has carved a niche for herself in Punjabi folk singing, has often spoken of her love for Punjab, its culture and language.
She proved her adoration for the state by getting married to beau Soren in Hoshiarpur in a Punjabi style wedding as per Hindu customs.
With traditional 'mehendi', 'jago' and 'sangeet' ceremonies followed by the 'saat pheras', she opted for a desi wedding. Attired in a shimmering salwar kameez, Anita looked every inch a Punjabi bride.
Often referred to as the 'Heer from Denmark', she met her 'Ranjha' in school and got acquainted with him again on Facebook recently. Both solemnised their court marriage in Denmark and decided to have a Punjabi wedding.
Their families also attended the celebrations. Anita enthralled the audience at the reception hosted for her by friend and mentor Anurag Sood. With 'Sadke Punjab Ton' from an album of hers, she paid tributes to the land she considers her second home. "I have a special connection with the city as my Punjabi singing journey started from here," she said.
Soren, also dressed in an ethnic ensemble, came to the party on an elephant. The guests were given CDs of her albums as return gifts. Politicians and the city's who's who blessed the newlyweds.
