Welcoming chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s gesture to call up some beneficiaries of the Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana for feedback, chief parliamentary secretary and BJP leader Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu has urged him to do such reality checks often for all welfare schemes.
In a letter to Badal, Dr Sidhu said, “I am pleased that you called up the beneficiaries and got negative feedback. I request you to do more reality checks for proper implementation of social welfare schemes such as old age pension, widow pension, toilets, Shagun scheme and others.”
She said people wait in queues for long and if don’t have ‘sifarish’ their applications usually land in the dustbins.
Reality was that there was no money for execution of schemes, more than half beneficiaries were fake, truckloads of wheat meant for Blue Card holders was being sold in the market, she said.
Further questioning the Government in the letter, CPS said, “How can private schools and colleges fleece children and where is the control of the government. How can you talk of big projects when you can’t even provide basic facilities to the people,” she said.
The CPS drew CM’s attention to the missing accountability in development works over money sanctioned and what was actually being spent. “If a CPS has to struggle for months to get works done, what about the common man?” she asked.
