The local police on Thursday booked Usma episode victim Harbrinder Kaur and her nine supporters for assaulting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activists during its rally held at nearby Alladinpur village on Wednesday.

Harbrinder Kaur, a resident of Usma village, had made headlines two years back after she along with her father were manhandled and thrashed by policemen while they were attending a wedding ceremony at a marriage palace in Tarn Taran. The case against the accused is still pending, while on the direction of the Punjab and Haryana high court, security has been provided to Harbrinder.

On Wednesday, Harbrinder, along with her supporters, reached the venue where the AAP rally was being organised. When AAP state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann arrived at the venue, they started shouting slogans against AAP activist Manjinder Singh Sidhu -- one of the main organisers of the rally and one of the alleged accused in the Usma episode case -- and against the party for enrolling Sidhu in AAP. They started demanding Sidhu’s ouster from the party and even tried to disrupt the rally.

When the AAP activists asked the protesters not to do the same, the situation turned ugly. Thereafter, the protesters attacked them with sticks that left some, including Aminder Singh Ammy, Jagroop Singh, Baghel Singh and Bachitter Singh injured.

On the complaint of Aminder Singh Ammy, one of the organisers of rally, a case was registered against Harbrinder Kaur, her father Kashmir Singh, Mintu, Gurmukh Singh, Ladi, Raju, Labhi Singh, Hardev Singh, Sona and Harjit Singh under Sections 323, 324, 341, 506, 148, 149 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code at Sadar police station.

When contacted, Manjinder Singh Sidhu, resident of Naushehra Pannuan, said he had been framed in the Usma episode case under deep conspiracy, as there was land dispute with the Sukhraj Singh, sarpanch of the village. He claimed though he was present in that ceremony, he was not involved in the incident of beating up of Harbrinder Kaur and some of her relatives.
