Only two persons filed nominations on the first day of the filing of nominations for the municipal corporation elections on Thursday. The nominations were filed in the office of additional deputy commissioner, Ludhiana, Roopanjali Kartik.

The two who filed nominations were Independent candidates Pritam Paul Singh from ward number 46 and Chunni Lal from ward number 21. Paul filed the nomination at 12.30pm, whereas Chunni Lal filed his papers at 2pm.

It was learnt that many councillors did not file the nominations on the first day, as they have not been provided a list of voters of their respective wards.

Gurdeep Singh Neetu, BJP councillor from ward No. 42, said, "We are waiting for the list of electorate that needs to be attached with the documents that are to be submitted with the officials concerned."

Meanwhile, a Congress councillor said he would file the nomination on May 26 as suggested by an astrologer. "At present, stars are not in proper place. I will file the nomination on the date suggested to me by an astrologer," the councillor added.

The MC elections are scheduled to be held on June 10 and the councillors and the aspiring candidates would make a beeline for filing the nominations in the coming days. The last date for filing the nominations is May 29.
