In order to oversee the ongoing procurement process, deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul conducted surprise inspection at grain markets across the district.
On his visit to Longowal grain market, the DC heard grievances of farmers as well as the procurement agencies. He assured farmers that paddy brought to grain markets will be purchased at the earliest and the payments will be made to them within the stipulated time.
Meanwhile, he instructed officials of Mandi board to take serious note of the problems farmers were facing in grain markets. In Sangrur, 9.58 lakh MT paddy had been procured till October 30.
In Barnala, additional deputy commissioner Zora Singh Thind also visited grain markets and took serious note of slow lifting and purchase of paddy. He directed the officials of purchasing agencies to speed up the lifting process in order to avoid glut and to make arrangements for other farmers. He also inspected electronic and manual weighing machines on the complaint of the farmers.
