Deputy Comissioner Basant Garg, has decreased collector rates of various areas in the city ranging from 10% to 40% on Thursday.

Giving details, Garg said, "This decision was approved after a committee was formed to make recommendations regarding fixation of new collector rates. It gave its consensus so as to provide relief to city residents."

He further said that the committee comprised representatives of various trade associations, real-estate associations, non-government organisations, brick-kiln associations, etc, besides officers of the revenue department and the municipal corporation.
The DC said besides, some people had also handed over their representations directly to the district administration last year for lowering collector rates, so, considering all aspects, rates were decreased. New collector rates would be applicable till March 31, 2015.

"Collector rates of 250 areas/localities including Vishav Karma market, Dhobi Bazaar, Link Road, from Gill Patti to Joganand, Clothes Market, Vegetables Market/Grain Market, Afeem Wali Gali, Homeland Colony, Ganpati Enclave, Sushant City, etc were decreased from 10% to 20%. Similarly, collector rates of about 10 areas/localities including Shant Nagar, Guru Nanak Nagar (near Lake No 3 and area behind Transport Nagar), Capt Amrinder Singh Nagar/Transport Nagar (rear area) were decreased from 21% to 30%," said Garg.

He further informed besides this, collector rates of Police Chowki to Mall-Godown Road and plots measuring 25 sq metres under Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority were also lowered from 31% to 40%.
