Deputy commissioner-cum-district returning officer Rajat Aggarwal on Monday reviewed the polling arrangements for the June-10 elections to the 65-member Amritsar Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Issuing instructions to the officials, he said their endeavour should be to ensure a free and fair election and also provide assistance to voters, wherever necessary. He directed the six returning officers (ROs) and their assistants to inspect each polling station in their respective areas to ensure that all facilities were available for the polling staff and voters. These facilities include round-the-clock power supply, poll-related stationery and availability of drinking water.
He said that for each ward, a supervisor would be appointed who would coordinate with his RO.
He said a total of 875 EVMs would be used for the AMC polls and these would be distributed among the ROs on Tuesday. Besides, the necessary poll kits would also be distributed.
He directed the civil surgeon to form mobile medical teams, which should be stationed at different places in the city. He also asked the ROs to coordinate the security areas in their respective wards with the police officers.
The DC also reviewed the arrangements for the Rajasansi nagar panchayat poll slated for June 7.
