Deputy commissioner Alaknanda Dayal reviewed arrangements for effective paddy procurement in Kapurthala district during a meeting with officers and district heads of government procurement agencies on Monday.
"We expect the arrival of 5.55 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in the mandis compared to last year's 5 lakh metric tonnes," Dayal said. "We have assigned grain markets to different procurement agencies. Punsup will procure 23%, Pungrain 25% and Markfed 22% of the arrival in the district while 11%, 10%and 9% have been allotted to Punjab Warehousing, Food Corporation of India and Punjab Agro respectively."
Instructions had been given to all procurement agencies to ensure lifting of paddy within 48 hours of auction and see that there was no shortage of gunny bugs for storage of grains, she added.
The deputy commissioner has asked Punjab Mandi Board officials to make sure of arrangements in mandis to save produce from untimely rains and to have proper sanitation facilities.
