DCs directs officials on flood control measures

Deputy commissioner Tanu M Kashyap held a meeting with officials of various departments on Wednesday and issued directions on flood control measures needed to be taken during the monsoon season. The meeting was held at Dilbagh Hall and officials from the health wing, drainage department among others were present.

Deputy commissioner Tanu M Kashyap held a meeting with officials of various departments on Wednesday and issued directions on flood control measures needed to be taken during the monsoon season. The meeting was held at Dilbagh Hall and officials from the health wing, drainage department among others were present.

The DC added that 77 flood-prone areas were identified and officials were directed to take special care of these areas. She also said that a 24x7 phone line at three subdivisions including Nawanshahr (01823-505824), Banga (01823-220016) and Balachaur (01823-220075) had been started.

She said that 13 locations had been identified, where relief camps could be set up to tackle any emergency.

Officials of the drainage department also asked DC to provide funds to complete some incomplete works in the district. She directed the Balachaur and Banga SDMs to take stock of the situation in their respective areas and take precauionary measures now.

Kapurthala deputy commissioner Daljeet Singh Mangat also held a meeting with officials to take stock of flood control measures. DC Mangat said that a 24-hour helpline (01822-231990) had been started in the district. He has asked Sultanpur Lodhi SDM to be especially vigilant as a number of villages in the district lie besides the Satluj river.
