Deceased doctor’s father records statement before SIT

Father of the 27-year-oold doctor Supriya, who had committed suicide at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) hostel, recorded his statement before the Special Investigation team (SIT) here on Monday. Deceased’s father Dr Balwinder Singh, who is district health officer (DHO) at Jalandhar, accused two doctors of DMC of abetting his daughter to suicide.

Singh told SIT that two doctors of DMC had harassed his daughter.

Singh alleged that DMC doctors were not ready to sign the project report of her daughter due to which she committed suicide.

Additional deputy commissioner of police and SIT member Harmohan Singh Sandhu confirmed that the father of deceased Surpiya recorded his statement.

It is pertinent to mention here that Supriya, a student of MD in the department of paediatrics at DMCH had committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan in a room at girl’s hostel on September 29.

National Commission for SC/ST had taken a sue motto action and ordered police commissioner to take action. Following that the police had registered a case of abetment to suicide against unidentified persons at Division Number 8 police station. The police have also formed a team to investigate the matter.
