December 16 again: Waiter rapes 10-year-old girl in Ludhiana, attempts to kill her with stone

A hotel waiter abducted a 10-year-old daughter of his neighbour, raped her in a vacant plot at Ambedkar Nagar in Focal Point area here on Thursday and later attempted to murder her.

A hotel waiter abducted a 10-year-old daughter of his neighbour, raped her in a vacant plot at Ambedkar Nagar in Focal Point area here on Thursday and later attempted to murder her.

Police said the accused, identified as Lakhbir Singh alias Lucky, 21, smashed the victim’s head with stones and bricks and left her in an unconscious state, presuming her dead. To avoid suspicion, he later joined the family of the girl when they were searching for her.

In a complaint, the victim’s father, who runs a cycle repair shop, said he found his daughter, a student of Class 1, missing when he came home on Thursday evening. He searched for her in the entire colony, but in vain.

He added that his daughter returned home at 9 pm and narrated the incident. She had deep injuries on her head and face and was bleeding profusely.

The police registered a case against the accused under Sections 376 (rape), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC and Sections 3, 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

ASI Gurcharan Singh, who is investigating the matter, said the accused confessed that after comitting the crime he joined the family of the victim to avoid suspicion.
