The railway ministry has agreed to make the defunct railway track between Patna Sahib Junction and Patna Ghat station functional besides upgrading and beautifying the Patna Ghat station to facilitate Sikh pilgrims visiting Patna, following a request made by Union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who called on railway minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday.

She told Prabhu that it would ensure that pilgrims visiting Patna during the 350th anniversary celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh were not inconvenienced. Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had recently written a letter in this regard to his Bihar counterpart.

In a statement, Harsimrat said the railway minister assured her that he had taken up the issue with the Bihar government and the ministry would run a shuttle service between the present inoperational track between Patna Sahib and Patna Ghat. She said the shuttle service, which would be run between the 10km tract every hour, would cater to 800 passengers during each journey.
