Despite the health department's awareness campaign, there has been an increase in the number of dengue patients arriving in the city hospitals. By Thursday, the number of dengue patients had reached 71.
As many as seven new cases were reported in a single day. Barring one, all patients had come from urban areas. Patients belonged to varied age groups. The health officials attribute the inflow to fluctuation in atmospheric temperature, which helped breeding of dengue mosquitoes, and people's casual approach to cleanliness.
An apheresis machine, which enables extraction of up to 300 ml of platelets from a single blood donor, has become operational in the civil hospital here. The facility was earlier available in a couple of private hospitals and Bhai Ghaniya Ji Blood Bank only.
Deputy medical commissioner Ajay Bagga revealed that all dengue cases reported so far in the district were non-haemorrhagic and hence easily curable.
