DEO, clerk suspended for fraud, embezzlement

The police registered a case of embezzlement against a clerk in the education department on Tuesday.
The deputy commissioner of police Naveen Singla informed that the case was registered five days back against the complaint of education department employee Pritpal Singh, for embezzlement in his medical reimbursement by clerk Beer Meherbaan.
Earlier on Monday evening, district education officer (secondary) Kuldeep Sharma was suspended on charges of fraud in government funds, after an order issued by the principal secretary Anjali Bhawra.
The case against the clerk was registered under sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) under the Indian Penal Code.
Roopinder Singh, SSP, vigilance bureau, Jalandhar, said, “We received a complaint about the fraud and embezzlement against the DEO and have forwarded the report to the headquarters to the chief vigilance officer in Chandigarh for further inquiry. The case now has been forwarded to the concerned department for further inquiry in the issue.”
According to the police, the fraud was conducted in government funds including medical, arrear bills, examination funds and prime minister Relief fund.
Hukam Chand, circle education officer, who was asked to submit the report to the education department said, “As per the intimation from higher authorities, I was asked to scrutinize the record and have submitted the report to the authorities”.
Deputy Harinder Pal has been appointed as the officiating DEO secondary.
