A half-kilometer stretch from Deol Nagar along the Nakodar road to Baba Ambedkar Park, situated on National Highway 71 in the city, has become a headache for the residents and shopkeepers in the region for months now.

The recent rain has damaged the road which was repaired three months ago by the municipal corporation.

Apart from the rain, the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) has also dug up the road for the installation of electricity poles near Deol Nagar which leads to traffic jams.

Commuters face a tough time driving on the bumpy road filled with water and a number of minor accidents have also been reported on this stretch in the past ten days.

Residents of nearby localities and shopkeepers allege the municipal corporation only patched the broken portions of the road to fill the potholes which resulted in the damage only three months after the repair.

Kunal Kalra, owner of Tiles N Beyond, said the municipal corporation had failed to provide relief to the public from the bad roads even after repeated requests to repair them. He said during the rains, commuters were harassed as the whole road got flooded with water which led to long queues of vehicles stranded for hours.
